Three steps to the next junction. Three steps he could make in silence if he kept his weight low, his boots flat, his breathing shallow.

A crate sat in the middle of the hallway. He'd need to move it. He crouched, gripped the edge, and lifted—slowly, the way Third Echelon drill demanded. The wood groaned. Not a crash. A groan. Enough.

Two boots stopped on the far side of the junction. A radio crackled. He was already moving, already choosing: drop the crate and let it ring out, or hold it, breathe, and wait for the rotation to swing them past.

He held it. The wood creaked again. The boots stopped. The radio crackled a second time.

Fisher exhaled through his nose and set the crate down on the far side of the wall, where the sound would die in the concrete. Then he walked, not ran, into the dark.

Practical player strategy across the series: crouch-walk through open areas, avoid dropping equipment unless you intend to use the resulting investigation as a distraction, always equip a suppressor when a shot is unavoidable, and time your noisier actions to coincide with guard rotations so the investigation path leads them away from your objective rather than toward you.
